Bioplatforms Australia, in collaboration with Minderoo Foundation, is pleased to announce the opening of the 2024 Request for Partnership for the Australian Fish Genomics Initiative. This national initiative seeks to advance our understanding of Australia’s marine and freshwater fish species by generating referential molecular data to support critical research and management strategies.

Through close collaboration with the marine and freshwater research communities, the Initiative aims to accelerate the knowledge of Australia’s fish biodiversity. This work will enhance our understanding of evolutionary relationships, adaptive potential, population structure and dynamics, and inform best practices for conservation and management.

The 2024 Request for Partnership invites applications for question-driven projects focusing on Australian marine and freshwater fish species. The Initiative will support projects that generate:

  • Reference Genomes: Long-read sequencing (PacBio HiFi, Oxford Nanopore Technologies), Hi-C, and transcriptomics (Illumina).
  • Population Genomics: Whole-genome sequencing (Illumina short-read sequencing).

In addition, proteomics and metabolomics analyses may be included where they complement genomic resources and enhance project outcomes.

This initiative provides a unique opportunity to access cutting-edge molecular tools and resources to address pressing research questions while building datasets that will have long-term value for the research and practitioner communities.
