Plant Pathogen initiative

REQUEST FOR PARTNERSHIP GUIDELINES

Background and Aims

The Bioplatforms Australia-supported Plant Pathogen ‘Omics Initiative was initiated in 2022 and is working to generate a national library of ‘omics data to support the goals and missions of the plant health community in preparing for, managing and mitigating plant disease outbreaks across Australia’s agricultural sectors.

The program is generating high quality molecular reference data for priority plant pathogens in Australia. This data is being developed through collaboration with the national plant pathogen community to support:

  • fundamental research and development in plant protection (e.g., understanding the emergence and evolution of pathogens in crop systems, resolving taxonomy and race structure, informing biocide development, etc.)
  • an effective national biosecurity surveillance system (e.g., incursion detection, rapid diagnostics tests, etc.)

Request for Partnership (RFP) 2024 now open

We are now calling for a second Request for Partnership from the community to generate genomic/genetic data from plant pathogens (bacteria, virus, fungi and nematode) that would support R&D and/or biosecurity applications.

Support provided
Bioplatforms will provide sequencing support to generate data through our network of genomics facilities. The Plant Pathogen Initiative will also provide access to the required compute and analytical resources through the Australian BioCommons.

Co-contributions
Project teams will provide co-contribution for sample provision, DNA/RNA extraction, bioinformatics/data analysis and end use application of the data.

Data and Collaboration Policy
Data generated from the Plant Pathogen Initiative will be made accessible to project teams at the Bioplatforms Data Portal as per the Plant Pathogen Data and Collaboration Policy (https://bioplatforms.com/plant-pathogen-omics-data-collaboration-policy/).

Note: The is a 12-month embargo on the data to allow for first-access to project teams. During this time, access will only be given to you/your project collaborators. After the 12-month period, the data will be scheduled for public release in the “Open-access” phase, as outlined in the Plant Pathogen Data and Collaboration Policy. There is a clause for consideration of sensitive data (Section 3.4), and we are happy to discuss concerns on a project-by-project basis.

To submit a partnership proposal:

  1. Submit all Request for Partnership using the online form at the following link: https://forms.gle/kNX7efXxrUz6GYj7A. You can edit a submitted form right up until the deadline. However, if needed, a Word version is available here to help you prepare your responses. Once ready, please paste your answers into the online form to submit your application.
  2. Complete and submit one form per species of interest. If you are aware of other groups working on your species of interest, we encourage you to collaborate and submit a single proposal.
  3. Address all criteria/questions listed in the form. Please note you can edit a submitted form right up until the deadline.
  4. Please provide an estimated/known genome size and ploidy where prompted to assist with the proposal review and cost estimate.
  5. NOTE: This is not a grant application. The Plant Pathogen Omics Initiative aims to support all projects that align with its objectives, within the limits of our available budget. Samples for sequencing should be provided within 12 months of project acceptance.

Deadline: COB Friday 18th October 2024
